UMCOR Response to Haiti needs YOU
A specific number for Haiti Disaster Response has been posted this morning on the UMCOR Website.  Use it or the International Disaster number, either will work, but the Haiti Disaster Response #418325 is preferred. You can also give online on the UMCOR website.
You will also find news of the disaster and how we are responding as United Methodists. There is a new release pertaining to "volunteering" on that website.  Please be patient, the website is experiencing huge amounts of traffic and this is being fixed.
Even though the runway at the Port Au Prince airport has been cleared for traffic, only relief supply planes are being allowed to use it.  They have no control tower until a temporary fix is brought in from the US.
UMCOR is also asking that you consider putting together Health Kits as part of your response.  Get them to any warehouse in the system (Midwest Mission Distribution Center, Chatham, IL is one or the other closest is Sager Brown, Baldwin, LA).
We have word from two teams we know that are in Haiti (from the Detroit and Dakotas Conferences) and the one from St. Luke's, Indianapolis, Indiana Conference is considered to be ok as they are further south of Port Au Prince.  We are waiting confirmation on this.
The Methodist guest house in Port Au Prince sustained a bit of damage but it was not extensive. Virginia and Jack Bell, Detroit Conference are ok in the Le Cayes Circuit.
Please continue your prayers for all our friends and loved ones in Haiti.
Thank you all!
