Weekly Updates

AUGUST 2018

"Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ "Galatians 6:2 (NLT)

The story of Corrie ten Boom I shared yesterday bears repeating. So here you go.
He came to me as the church was emptying, beaming and bowing. "How grateful I am for your message, Frauline," he said. "To think that as you say, He washed my sins away!" His hand was thrust out to shake mine. And I, who had preached so often to the people in Bloemendaal the need to forgive, kept my hand at my side. Even as the angry, vengeful thoughts boiled through me, I saw the sin of them... I prayed, forgive me and help me to forgive him. I tried to smile, I struggled to raise my hand. I could not. I felt nothing, not the slightest spark of warmth or charity. And so again I breathed a prayer. "Jesus, I cannot forgive him. Give me your forgiveness."
As I took his hand the most incredible thing happened. From my shoulder along my arm and in my hand a current seemed to pass from me to him, whole into my heart sprang a love for this stranger that almost overwhelmed me.
And so I discovered that it is not our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that the world's healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us love our enemies, He gives, along with the command, the love itself. (The Hiding Place pg. 238)

 AUGUST 2018

"Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ "Galatians 6:2 (NLT)

God is about caring for our troubles and burdens, and God uses us to get it done in many ways! How many places do we read in the Bible of someone helping another? Of relief and rescue coming in the time of need? How about food in times of hunger, water in times of thirst, and let us never forget, forgiveness in the throes of SIN! There is a common element present in all of these!     LOVE!
The foundation of the Christian life is love.

You've heard God is Love! Think about that for a moment... The retributive God of many Old Testament stories is in reality a merciful God! Why didn't God just wipe out the unfaithful generation of Israelite people who refused to trust and cross the Jordan? Why didn't God destroy the Romans when they occupied Israel, or earlier the Assyrians, or the Babylonians? Because God is LOVE! That's why Jesus said...

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
